Area Map
Nemuro is a port city directly facing the sea with rich marine products landed throughout the year. Especially the Hanasaki-gani crabs, caught only in July and August in coastal areas of Kushiro and Nemuro, are widely known for their valuable taste. At the Crab Market in front of JR Nemuro station, you can purchase the freshest crabs caught and boiled in the morning. If your visit is in the Hanasaki-gani crab season, you can't miss the opportunity to taste it. At the tip of the Nemuro Peninsula is Japan's easternmost cape, Nosappu Misaki. Nosappu Misaki is also known for the earliest sunrise in Japan. Its illusory scenery of the sunrise from the drifting ice during the coldest period in winter is very popular among the tourists.
