Relaxing hot spring at the west base of the Zao mountain range. Zao hot spring, located at the height of 880 meters, used to be called “Taka-yu,” literally “high-hot spring.” It is one of the Ou-u Three High-Hot Springs together with Shirabu and Takayu hot springs, there are many day spa and public bath facilities in the area so everyone can enjoy the hot spring which is said to be good for your skin health. Also there is a famous big outdoor hot spring along the Sukawa River that is flowing in the district. During the winter, many people visit the area after they enjoyed skiing at the nearby Yamagata Zao Hot Spring Skiing Ground.
